Eye of the Needle

This letter to the editor, by Tammy Tollefson, appeared in the Pierce County Register on June 4, 2025.

I'd like to know what version of Christianity Republicans in Congress are following. 

Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me,’” and in Matthew 25:45, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.” 

But Republicans in Congress are helping multimillionaires and billionaires instead of the poorest and least among us. To cater to the rich and add to the national debt, their federal budget proposal takes food from children and yanks medical care from the disabled and elderly.

Are the wealthy not rich enough? 

Jesus said in Matthew 19:24, “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 

Denying food and health care to the poor is contrary to the teachings of Jesus. Their Bible must be the version Donald Trump sold.
